Application for a Mailing List Service (MLS)
on The World
The World offers several types of mailing lists for use by World
customers. A mailing list is a collection of mail addresses joined
together under one mail address, sometimes called a 'mail alias'.
Any messages sent to the name of the mailing list will be copied and
sent individually to each subscriber of the mailing list.
Mailing List Service Application
Terms of The World's Mailing List Service (MLS)
1) The Mailing List Service (MLS) must have an MLS Owner and the Owner
must be a World customer. All management of the mailing list
by the MLS Owner must be handled from the World account.
2) The MLS application must be completed and submitted via
postal mail to:
MLS
Software Tool & Die
1330 Beacon Street, Suite 215
Brookline, MA 02146
or via email to mls-owner@world.std.com
3) Mailing List Service rates are as follows:
a) MLS Maintenance Fee, per list:
$5/month/list
20/20 and Gold account rates include MLS Maintenance Fees
for two mailing lists.
b) MLS Address Fee, per account, all lists combined:
First 500: No charge
Over 500: $5/month/500 or part thereof
The first 500 addresses on all mailing lists are included at no
additional fee. Every 500 addresses thereafter is an additional $5
per 500 addresses per month. MLS Address fees are calculated based on
the total membership for all mailing lists. For example, if
you have 3 mailing lists with a total of 300 members, the monthly
cost is 3 x $5 = $15. If you have 6 mailing lists with a total of 550
members, the monthly cost is (6 x $5) + $5 = $35.
Digest lists are considered to be additional lists, subject to all
charges outlined above. You must have a primary list in order to
have a secondary digest list. Therefore, having a regular mailing
list and a digest version of the same list means you have two
mailing lists.
c) MLS Requests and Modifications Fee
No charge at this time.
d) MLS Volume Fee
No charge at this time.
An additional rate will be established for the monthly
volume of mail delivered via a mailing list. The price
has not yet been established. All MLS Owners will be notified
directly of this additional fee.
MLS fees will not be pro-rated nor refunded upon cancellation.
4) Setup of a new MLS requires 4 business days and modifications
to an existing MLS requires 2 business days for processing. Only
requests from the World account designated as the MLS Owner
will be accepted as the authoritative source for modifications to a
MLS configuration.
5) The MLS Owner is responsible to provide best effort management of
the list. An MLS that is unattended for 15 days or more may be
disabled without prior notification to the MLS Owner.
6) Cancellation of the MLS must be received in writing or via email
from the MLS owner's World account.

MLS Configuration Options:
Access Options
Access to the "info" file, the "intro" file, and the "who" option are
governed by one of three settings: open, closed, and list. "Open"
means anyone can get it, "closed" means only the list owner can get it
(by using the password - same as the old "anon = yes" setting), and
"list" (which is the same as the old "private = yes" setting - only
addresses on the list can get the information). In addition, the
"which" command is also governed by this. "which" should usually be
set to "closed", which means no one can check to see whether or not
someone is subscribed to any lists here.
*info_access = open \ closed\ list
*intro_access = open \ closed\ list
*which_access = open \ closed\ list
*who_access = open \ closed\ list
*Restricted List: YES NO
A restricted list means only addresses subscribed to the mailing
list can post to the mailing list. All other messages are
redirected to the MLS Owner. (not applicable to digests)
*subscribe_policy = open+confirm \ open \ closed \ closed+confirm
One of two values: open or closed; plus an optional modifier:
'+confirm'. Open allows people to subscribe themselves to the
list. Closed requires maintainer approval for all subscribe
requests to the list. Adding '+confirm', ie, 'open+confirm',
will cause majordomo to send a reply back to the subscriber which
includes a authentication number which must be sent back in with
another subscribe command. Our recommended setting is 'open+confirm'
*Moderated List: YES NO
Moderator Address (if different from list owner):
A moderated mailing list requires all messages to the MLS
to be approved by the MLS Owner or moderator prior to delivery. (not
applicable to digests)
*Non-Advertised List: YES NO
A non-advertised list means the name of the mailing list will not
be shown in the 'lists' command from majordomo unless the sender
of the command is already on the non-advertised mailing list.
Initial Description (you can change this later if you want):
You can set a Description of the list (50 characters or less) to
appear with the listname in the 'lists' command.
Additional comments:
I, the MLS Owner, agree to the Terms & Conditions as described herein
and accept full responsibility for payment of usage fees incurred by
this MLS.
