The World Kiosk includes weekly web statistic summary reports via email to all World Web Site customers as part of the Kiosk Bundle and Kiosk Web Site accounts. These reports cover the activity of the previous week from Sunday through Saturday, and arrive as a simple text file in two email messages sent every Sunday morning.
How It Works
One message shows totals for activity by domains accessing your web space, and a summary of the top 200 domains per day. The second message shows totals for activity by pages on your site, and a summary of the top 200 pages per day. We've had good success importing the reports into both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access for manipulation and analysis, although you can use whatever program you wish.
How To Sign Up
To sign up for the World Kiosk Web Statistic Service, simply log in to the administrator account for your web site. Change over to the top level of your web site:world% cd /kiosk/Newbury/foldername
Create the file '.kstats' in that directory:
world% touch .kstats
This will enable mailing of weekly Kiosk statistics to the administrative account of the Kiosk Web site.
If you wish to have the statistics e-mailed elsewhere, instead of the command 'touch' above, use the command
world% cat > .kstats
and hit enter. Then type
one@host.com, two@host.com, three@host.com
with the email addresses that you would like the stats e-mailed to, and hit enter. Then hit
[Ctrl] D
and the file will be created with the additional e-mail addresses in it. You can put as many as three addresses in that file, but no more. Make certain the addresses are separated by commas.
You can create the .kstats file in your web in your web site folder any time. The system will begin collecting statistics from the date you create the file, so your first weekly report may not contain an entire week's worth of statistics.
How To Suspend Web Stats
To discontinue the web statistic reports, simply delete the .kstats file from your folder with the commandworld% rm .kstats
