BROOKLINE PEACE COALITION

Last fall, Brookline's Town Meeting adopted by a vote of nearly 2 to 1 a resolution on war with Iraq stating that Town Meeting opposes any U.S. attack on Iraq until and unless (1) there is clear and convincing evidence of a serious and imminent threat of aggression by Iraq, and (2) the U.N. has determined that collective action is necessary against Iraq.

 PURPOSE

At the first meeting of the Coalition working group in mid-February, it was decided that the general purpose of the organization would be to plan and carry out activities within the spirit of the Town Meeting resolution.

 ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERS

The coalition already has five organizational members:  Brookline PeaceWorks, Brookline PAX, Workmen's Circle, the Brookline Educators Association (BEA), and Visions of Peace and Justice (VOPJ). Many of the synagogues and churches in town have been contacted, as well as all the town's unions, encouraging them to join the Coalition or at least send a representative to meetings of the working group. We need your help to increase outreach!
