Former jobs: At BBN I made graphical user interfaces for speech recognition research systems.

By relieving the brain of all unnecessary work a good GUI sets it free to concentrate on more advanced problems.

I spent 10 steady years as a software engineer at Applicon, aka Schlumberger Cad/Cam;

I spent 5 happy years as an applications programmer at Financial Publishing Company. R.I.P.

I spent 1976-79 at ACS, a software house in London England. I loved London.

Before that I taught for 5 years: I spent a year teaching English-as-a-foreign-language & Art in Amirim, Israel. Then I settled into teaching High School Math. First at a boarding school, (Sherman Indian High School in Riverside California), then in London (Cardinal Hinsley & La Retraite--London Borough of Brent & Inner --London Education Authority resp.).
